Below, from Mattayom 3 is GOT's story. It shows a very good understanding of the past simple tense.
In the afternoon Jim and Jack went fishing in the river. In the river there were many fish. Jim sat on his chair and he ate a cake. Jack stood on the grass. They fished for 3 hours, after that they looked their hooks. The hooks didn't have a fish. The elephant sucked many fish in the river. It blew many fish in their bucket. Jim and Jack were happy!!
